One candidate I am ready to commit to for the 2008 nomination is Hillary Rodham Clinton. Only the Democrats would be stupid enough to nominate such a widely dislike candidate, a fact that Karl Rove called attention to yesterday on Rush Limbaugh.
“Look, she is who she is,” Mr. Rove said on Mr. Limbaugh’s syndicated program. “There is no front-runner who has entered the primary season with negatives as high as she has in the history of modern polling.
“She’s going into the general election with, depending on what poll you look at, in the high 40s on the negative side and just below that on the positive side. And there’s nobody who has ever won the presidency who started out in that kind of position.”

We Iowans can't stand her. Check out this excerpt from the Washington Post today about Hillary Clinton and Rudy's trips to the Iowa State Fair. One Iowans got it exactly right! The Anti-Christ!
Christie Vilsack, who with her husband, Tom, the former Iowa governor, was part of the Clinton entourage, spent much of the more than two-hour tour introducing the candidate to familiar voters. But when Vilsack tried to coax 87-year-old Roberta Hindman to come meet Clinton, the elderly woman snapped: "No way. She makes me sick." Another passerby loudly referred to Clinton as "the Antichrist," and a third man argued with Tom Vilsack about whether she would become president, telling him, "I can't stand her."

Therefore, I endorse Hillary for the Democrat Party's nomination. She will unite the party as no GOP candidate could and ensure a Republican follows President Bush as the inhabitant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Back for the Home Stretch
Let me say that I apologize for not responding to your emails in my long hiatus. I had hoped to get a good, solid start to my blogging career, but had some personal family issues come up that didn't leave a whole heck of a lot of time for what seemed like frivolous blogging. But, things are on the upswing now and I thought what better time to re-launch Ruby Red Iowa than in the wake of the 2007 Iowa Straw Poll? After all, it is held on location at the greatest university in the world and home to the soon-to-be biggest story in NCAA football. Mark it down, the 'Clones knock off the Hawks this year. :)
Here are some thoughts on the Straw Poll:
1) How genuine is Mitt Romney? He spent gobs of money and bussed in an army of supporters. It showed in his solid victory, but is it a sign of any real strength? He didn't have to compete against Rudy or Fred. I still don't trust this guy when it comes to being Pro-Life. His conversion smells like convenience to me. He ran for governor as pro-choice, then flipped (or flopped) upon being elected. It seems to me that he has no real conviction on this issue except what is expedient to his election success.
As a side note, I don't like the polo shirt, BBQ look he went with for his speech. I know the Straw Poll is one giant festival with BBQ's and all sorts of cool stuff, but you are still running for president and giving the most important speech of the race so far. I think a candidate should look like a president in the circumstances.
***Re-reading this, I didn't mean to make this a rag on Romney point. It just came out that way. I'm truly undecided on who to Caucus for and would encourage any pro-Mitt Republicans to make their case for him in the comments section.****
2) The meat and potatoes Republicans did really well. I was really happy to see some good, Christian Pro-Lifers do well in Gov. Huckabee and Sen. Brownback. Brownback's speech citing Jesus was heart-warming. He has been the leader in shining the light on the questionable Pro-Life stance of Romney:

(Again, feel free to set the record straight, Romney supporters. I take the rights of the unborn very seriously and wish to have all facts in the open as it pertains this subject.)
I thought Gov. Huckabee was HILARIUS. Especially the joke about that thug QB Michael Vick. However, Club for Growth has raised some legitimate questions about his Clintonian record as Governor of Ark. (http://www.clubforgrowth.net/)
3) Tom Tancredo should be made a HIGH cabinet official in the post-2008 Republican White House, if not Vice President. He is dead on when it comes to illegal immigration. It is sinking our economy and the illegals are stealing American jobs from honest, legal American citizens. This is wrong and our next president shouldn't be pandering to these people. He should be enforcing American laws and saving jobs for American citizens.
4) Ron Paul has some interesting things to say, but he is a little too Libertarian for my blood. There is no two ways about it. This live and live Libertarianism is more in line with Democrats. Next thing you know, Paull will be saying that civil unions for homosexuals are a good thing and don't erode family values. He is dead wrong on abortion. Roe. v. Wade should be overturned and abortions should be illegal.
